Frequently Asked Questions

This section should give you a basic understanding of the refinishing process.  We are always happy to answer any other questions you may have or discuss your particular refinishing needs.

What parts of my bathroom or kitchen can be refinished?

Almost any type of kitchen or bath fixture can be reglazed.  Reglazing can be done on bathtubs, showers, sinks, countertops, vanity tops, and ceramic tile.

What types of surfaces can be refinished?

Besides porcelain, reglazing can be done on fiberglass, acrylics, formica, ceramic tile, cultured marble, or virtually any solid surface.

What colors are available?

Your fixture can be reglazed in virtually any color you choose, from basic white or almond to any color in the Sherwin-Williams color palette.  We can also match major manufacturer colors such as American Standard White  or Kohler Bisque.

What do you do when you reglaze a tub?

We being by removing all the old caulk from around the tub.  The tub is then thoroughly cleaned, and any nicks, chips, or scratches are repaired.  The walls and floors are masked and protected with drop cloths to prevent overspray.

An industrial primer is sprayed on, followed by spraying the acrylic urethane topcoat.

The masking tape and paper are removed and we recaulk your tub.

Do I have to remove the faucets and drains?

Your existing faucets and drains can be left in place.  We will mask around them while we are spraying the tub.

If you are planning to replace your faucets and hardware, it is best to remove the old ones before reglazing, and then install the new ones after the coating has cured.

Please note: Amazing Glaze does not do any plumbing work, including removing or installing faucets or drains.  Please make other arrangements for that work to be done.

How long does it take?

Most fixtures can be refinished in a total of 4-6 hours.  The finish will dry to the touch within 30 minutes, but must be allowed to cure for at least 24 hours before use.

Refinishing can usually be completed in one day, but on occasion conditions may require that we return the next day to buff & polish the tub.  This usually becomes necessary when other construction is going on and there is dust and debris in the air.

Is there a lot of odor during the process?

It depends on the ventilation available in your home.  If there is an open window in the area we are working, our high speed fans will remove the odor directly outside.

If there is no window in the area, we use ventilation ducting to vent to the nearest window.  Any odor in the house will dissipate quickly and should be completely gone within a few hours.

What do I clean my refinished tub with?

Refinished surfaces should only be cleaned with non-abrasive, water-based cleaners such as Scrubbing Bubbles or Formula 409.  Abrasive cleaners, inlcuding Soft Scrub, should not be used on reglazed surfaces.  Using inappropriate cleansers on your fixture will void your warranty.

Can I still use my suction cup bath mat after reglazing?

Use of bath mats or other items such as children's toys with suction-cup materials on them will void your warranty.  A permanent non-skid additive is available for the bottom of your tub during reglazing for an additional charge.

What kind of warranty do you give, and how long will refinishing last?

Amazing Glaze warrants your work for 3 years against chipping, peeling, cracking, and lifting.

With proper care, your refinished fixture should last 10 years or more.
